When Trauma is Severe or Complex

Some people have experienced trauma that goes beyond what most people talk about like sexual abuse, cults, childhood trauma, religious trauma, witnessing violence or death, a near death experience, or surviving years of emotional and relational harm. These experiences often leave deep, lingering impacts on identity, trust, and the nervous system.

If you’ve carried these experiences silently or felt like therapy never quite reached the depth you needed, you’re not alone. I offer a space where nothing is “too much.” Where your story is honored, and your healing unfolds at your own pace.

What you can expect from Therapy:

  • Trauma is any experience that overwhelms your ability to cope, leaving you feeling stuck, unsafe, or disconnected. It might include sexual assault, childhood abuse or neglect, being raised by emotionally immature parents, cults, religious trauma, near death experiences, interpersonal violence, betrayal, or accidents.

Trauma is also be smaller, repeated experiences that chip away at your sense of well-being.

Trauma therapy addresses not only what happened in the past but also how it continues to affect your thoughts, emotions, behaviors, and relationships. You might notice anxiety, stress, or feeling “on edge,” and a disrupted sense of self.

Using trauma-focused methods like EMDR and Internal Family Systems (IFS), we move beyond coping toward healing:

    • EMDR helps reprocess painful memories and the negative beliefs they’ve created, so you can release the grip trauma has on your emotions and body.

    • IFS helps you understand and nurture the different parts of yourself—those that protect, those that are vulnerable, and those that hold pain—allowing healing to unfold with compassion and inner connection.

Together, we’ll build a foundation of safety and trust that allows you to reconnect with your strengths, find peace, and open to new possibilities

  • Anxiety doesn’t always look like panic. It often hides behind overthinking, overdoing, people-pleasing, or the feeling that something bad might happen, even if you can’t name what. You might constantly scan for what’s wrong, replay conversations, or feel tension or tightness that never fully lets up.

Maybe you’ve learned to manage it by staying in control, staying productive, or staying emotionally quiet, but that kind of survival comes at a cost. You can feel disconnection from yourself, exhaustion, and a deep longing to feel settled in your own mind and body.

I work with individuals (including children, teens, and adults) who are:

    • Caught in cycles of chronic worry, self-doubt, and overthinking

    • Navigating perfectionism, people-pleasing, or fear of failure

    • Experiencing physical tension, sleep issues, or difficulty relaxing

    • Managing anxiety tied to past trauma or emotional neglect

    • Feeling responsible for others’ needs at the expense of their own

    • Ready to stop coping and start truly feeling present and grounded

Anxiety therapy isn’t just about reducing symptoms—it’s about reclaiming your internal sense of safety, trust, and choice.

Using approaches like EMDR and Internal Family Systems (IFS), we go beneath the surface to work with what’s actually driving the anxiety:

    • EMDR helps target the unresolved memories and beliefs that fuel chronic worry, hypervigilance, or the feeling of never being safe or good enough—so you can finally let your nervous system exhale.

    • IFS helps you understand the internal parts of you that try to manage, protect, or avoid anxiety—and the parts of you that carry fear, shame, or unmet needs. You’ll learn how to relate to these parts with more compassion, rather than judgment or control.

Together, we’ll create space to slow down, turn inward, and reconnect with your body, your needs, and your self-worth—so anxiety no longer runs the show.

  • You might feel lost, unsure, or disconnected from who you truly are beneath the roles, expectations, and responsibilities you carry. Perhaps you find yourself people-pleasing, self-critical, or caught in patterns of overachieving and always trying to prove your worth to others or yourself.

These experiences can leave you questioning your value, your purpose, or even your basic sense of self.

I work with individuals who struggle with:

    • Identity confusion or feeling disconnected from their authentic self

    • Chronic self-doubt and harsh inner criticism

    • People-pleasing, codependency, or fear of abandonment

    • Difficulty setting boundaries and honoring personal needs

    • A longing for clarity, confidence, and meaningful connection

Therapy is a supportive space to explore and untangle the beliefs and experiences shaping your identity, helping you reclaim your inner voice and build healthier relationships with yourself and others.

Using approaches like Internal Family Systems (IFS) and EMDR, we work deeply with your inner world:

    • IFS guides you in connecting with the many “parts” inside you—the protective, vulnerable, and wounded—and helps you build compassion and collaboration among them, leading to greater self-understanding and wholeness.

    • EMDR helps process past experiences that may have fragmented your sense of self or created limiting beliefs, allowing you to move forward with renewed clarity and self-trust.

Together, we’ll support you in stepping into a life that reflects your true values, passions, and strengths—beyond what others expect or what you feel pressured to be.

  • You’ve worked hard, achieved a lot, and built a life that looks successful on the outside. But inside, you might feel exhausted, anxious, or disconnected—like you’re always pushing, but never fully arriving.

Maybe the drive to do well, help others, or “hold it all together” has come at the expense of your emotional well-being. You may appear capable and composed, but feel overwhelmed, numb, or unsure of who you are beyond your roles and responsibilities.

I work with high achievers and driven professionals who are:

    • Struggling with burnout, perfectionism, or imposter syndrome

    • Over-functioning to avoid discomfort or deeper emotional pain

    • Feeling disconnected from their emotions, body, or relationships

    • Wrestling with quiet anxiety or unresolved childhood dynamics

    • Longing for meaning and peace beyond constant productivity

    • Balancing high-pressure roles while ignoring their own needs

Therapy offers a space to step out of performance mode and into genuine connection—with yourself, your values, and the parts of you that have been quietly asking for attention.

Using approaches like EMDR and Internal Family Systems (IFS), we go deeper than surface-level coping.

    • EMDR helps process the past experiences and internalized beliefs that fuel your perfectionism, self-doubt, and inner pressure—so you can begin to feel safe letting go.

    • IFS helps you get to know the “parts” of you that have been pushing, fixing, or avoiding and the parts that are tired, guarded, or quietly hurting. Instead of fighting these patterns, we work with them from a place of compassion and curiosity.

This work is about more than managing stress. It’s about reclaiming your self-worth, your emotional presence, and your right to live with balance not just achievement.

By addressing lived experiences, easing emotional burdens, fostering self-compassion, and strengthening self-worth, you’ll rediscover the inner resilience and values that make you who you are.

This journey is about healing and embracing the authentic strengths and values that define who you are at your core.
